My Stories

The Military: My Story

A Story by Jenni Bailey

People go into the military to fight for their country. I admire their bravery and courage they have, but that’s not all that goes into being in the military. When troops are told to go overseas, they express their sadness, love for their families, etc… This is where my story begins: Growing up in the military was hard and also very heartbreaking. My Dad was in The Air Force for 20 years, he was on deployment a lot, and was gone for a significant amount of time. It affected me a great deal, I just wanted my Daddy. My Dad and I were one soul. The daddy-daughter bond was unbreakable.

A Pink Girl in a Black World

Hi, I’m Jenni. Welcome to Jenni Bailey Poetry, where raw emotion meets unfiltered truth. I’ve been writing since childhood, using poetry to process the world around me — and the world within me. Growing up with Cerebral Palsy and navigating a trauma-heavy life hasn’t been easy, but words gave me something nothing else could: power. My poetry isn’t sugar-coated. It’s dark, intense, and real — just like life. And while it may be uncomfortable for some, it’s everything to me. Writing is more than just my outlet — it’s my survival.

My Life, My Voice, My Truth

I often describe myself as a pink girl in a black world. That phrase captures the contrast of how I feel inside versus what life has thrown at me. Through every heartbreak, through every silent moment of pain — I’ve written. My work reflects not just my story, but the emotional chaos many of us carry and never voice. I am proud to be part of the growing movement of female poets with lived experience, women who speak honestly about mental health, disability, trauma, and survival. I don’t write to impress — I write to connect. My poems like Fragile Doll and The Snake aren’t just pieces — they’re pieces of me.

Writing Through Pain, Speaking to the World

As a contemporary spoken word artist, I blend the rhythm of performance with the soul of the written word. I speak for those who have been silenced, for those who feel too broken to write their own stories. My work is also a part of the wider community of poetry by disabled artists, offering a platform where our voices are not only heard — they are felt. Every poem I write is a reflection of real life, real pain, and real resilience.

If you’re looking for surface-level inspiration, this might not be the place for you. But if you’re drawn to the raw, the honest, the beautiful darkness — you’re exactly where you belong. I also proudly contribute to the world of authentic poetry by independent writers, standing strong without filters or pretenses.

Enter My World (If You’re Ready)

My poetry is for mature audiences (18+) due to the themes I explore. Trauma, pain, identity, and survival are not easy topics — but they’re real, and they deserve space. If you’re ready to dive in, I invite you to explore the world of Jenni Bailey Poetry. Just know this: You won’t leave the same.
